[tps_title]Fun flyweight fight[/tps_title]
Looking at the style matchups of the two flyweights in the night’s co-feature hinted that it could be a fun fight, if only because Jarred Brooks (4-0) is a griding wrestler who would clearly want things on the mat while C.J. Hamilton (4-3) was more of a striker. Brooks got the takedown early in the first round and controlled much of the first few minutes, but Hamilton was able to turn the tide in the last 45 seconds or so and do more damage with his strikes. The second round was Hamilton’s, as he was able to stuff multiple takedowns and landed some vicious knees as Brooks changed levels. At one point, it appeared as though the referee was mere seconds away from stopping the fight as Hamilton was throwing a flurry against the cage. Brooks survived although he lost the round. Then in the third the tide changed again, as both fighters were exhausted but still going for it. Brooks was able to control the fight with the clinch and some well-timed takedowns, giving him that third round.
So it was all up to the first round and whether the judges were more impressed with Brooks’ edge in control or Hamilton’s edge in damage. After an extended length of time adding up the scores, the split decision was awarded to Brooks, although there really wasn’t a loser in this fight and it was the clear fight of the night.
