Taft’s Brewing Co opened Taft’s Ale House in 2015 in OTR inside of an old church, and the “Brewpourium” opened in an old streetcar warehouse in St. Bernard in 2017.
Since then, they’ve offered up some of the best and most unique beer in the city, continually growing and converting craft beer fans one at a time. The downtown Ale House offers up tri-tip steak, while the Brewpourium has a menu centered around pizza. For those who want a more intimate setting, the Ale House also features Nellie’s Taproom downstairs, a quieter more laid-back bar setting.
Taft’s also opened a second Brewpourium about 100 miles away in the Franklinton neighborhood in Columbus.
Taft’s closed their original Ale House location in 2023, but both Brewpourium locations remain open.
Must-try beer: Gustav (Vienna Lager) – This one may be an upset with a lot of people loving their Nellie’s Key Lime Caribbean Ale, but for my money Gustav is the best beer that Taft’s makes. And it’s brought them home some hardware, including a gold medal at GABF and silvers at the US Open Beer Championship and World Beer Cup. It’s just light enough with a perfect amount of honey and toasty flavors to make it great.
