Not surprisingly, “No Love” still has no love.
Ohio native Cody “No Love” Garbrandt (6-0, 1-0 UFC) moved to California last year to train at the world-class Team Alpha Male gym, and his game has improved in leaps and bounds, as he showcased in a dominant win over Marcus Brimage at UFC 182 in his UFC debut earlier this month.
Garbrandt has become one of the hottest names in a camp that also includes former WEC champion and likely future Hall of Famer Urijah Faber, current UFC bantamwieght champion T.J. Dillashaw, former title challengers Chad Mendes and Joseph Benavidez, and more.
If there is one thing that the former Pinnacle FC star and batamweight champion is, it’s loyal to his team. He also doesn’t like being called out, whether directly or indirectly. His grudge match against Dominic Mazzotta last year was one of the most highly hyped and anticpated bouts in local MMA in recent memory.
So of course when current UFC flyweight Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall (13-4-1, 2-2-1 UFC) called out Team Alpha Male in an interview with Bloody Elbow, Garbrandt took offense. Here’s what McCall had to say:
I’ve never had a problem with Joe, but apparently, he has something to say. Team Alpha Male are nice guys, but they come off as the douchiest camp, and I’ve told some of their guys this. They’re the douchebag frat guys of MMA. They walk around flexing with their shirts off, bumping chests and just seem like they would be the guys that would try to bang your girlfriend when your back is turned. Good for you, you’re the coolest guys in Sacramento. There’s only one of you that’s ever going to be champion, and that’s T.J. Dillashaw, and they treated him like the red-headed stepchild for a while. Look at him now, though. He’s the man.
McCall is set to take on John Lineker at UFC 183 this weekend, and the winner could be granted a title shot against flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
But Garbrandt decided to put his outlook on the matter in the public domain, so he called into Team Alpha Male Radio earlier this week and voiced his opinion.
“Him calling us out like frat guys is like a fat girl calling a cheerleader a whore,” Garbrandt said. “Joe whipped his ass, so I don’t know; it looks like maybe he wants another Team Alpha Male member to do it. But I don’t know, he’s a jealous mustache I know that.”
When the topic was breached about the two fighters being in different weight classes, Garbrandt stated that he would gladly drop down a division in order to teach McCall a lesson.
“I think I could make 125, I’d have to hit up [MMA nutritionist] Mike Dolce. If I could make 125 healthy, I’d whip Ian McCall’s ass.”
Garbrandt also had some choice words about McCall’s trademark hairstyle and “Uncle Creepy” mustache.
“I think he’s basic and he has stupid hair and a stupid mustache.”
Garbrandt said he also doubts the part about McCall calling Alpha Male members douchebags to their faces.
“I guarantee that he would never come up to one of our Team Alpha Male guys and say that we’re douchebags and walk away with his mustache still on his face.”
So how would Garbrandt fare in a fight against McCall? We’ll let Garbrandt himself answer that.
“I’ll carve him up like a pumpkin.”
Get your popcorn ready, folks. Shots have been fired.
I caught kip beating off to this cody. Saying something about eating pumkin seeds. #9224LIFE
