Some people are of the opinion that with the saturation and sheer number of breweries that we now have, it’s impossible for a newer brewery to burst onto the scene and impress with its beer and focus as a whole. To those people, I offer as exhibit HighGrain Brewing Co, which is cranking out some great beer as Silverton’s first brewery.

HighGrain’s focuses are great beer, community, sustainability, and food. And since opening in 2019, they’re hitting all four pillars on the head. Started by former members of the Christian Moerlein team, they’re in tune with both the history and the future of beer in Cincinnati.

HighGrain features an open, airy taproom with different spaces both for those looking to focus on a traditional dining setting as well as those looking for a more bar-like experience. They also have a large outdoor patio and a downstairs event space.

Brentwood Bowl

In 2023, HighGrain announced that they’ll open a big production facility and taproom in the former Brentwood Bowl in Springfield Township. They will move most of their brewing operations to the huge new location, which is expected to open in spring 2024.

Along with HighGrain, the location will also be home to Revel OTR Urban Winery and La Terza Artisan Coffee.

Must-try beer: Amazonas Exposure (farmhouse/saison) – A wet-hopped saison with hops from Hopped Farms in Cincinnati, this beer was brewed fresh and tastes fresh. It’s also cool that proceeds went to help improve the Amazon rainforest.

Other great beers: Isar Weiss (Hefeweizen), Oost (Belgian Golden Strong Ale)
