When you open in the shadow of Urban Artifact in Northside, you’d better offer something unique. That was exactly the challenge facing Humble Monk Brewing Co when they opened their rustic taproom in 2019.
Humble Monk specializes in Belgian-style beers brewed by veteran homebrewer Michael Kemp and fermented in vessels that were once used in the family’s biodiesel business.
The taproom itself is bare-bones, with old church pews serving as seating and large electrical spools as tables. The modest wooden bar is the centerpiece of the space.
Must-try beer: Pious (Patersbier) – A traditional Trappist style, this is a lower ABV table beer. Definitely not a style you see every day, and one that was nailed by Humble Monk.
