[tps_title]Pimentel and Phillips win titles[/tps_title]
Despite quite the interesting night of action, three titles in total were handed out at the event, including a pair of amateur belts handed out.
In the amateur main event, Canadian fighter Joe Pimentel (4-1) rebounded from a November defeat at the hands of Floyd Cisco (3-3) to claim the IT Fight Series flyweight title. Pimentel controlled much of the fight with striking and from his back, and he was eventually able to lock in a triangle choke in the third round to secure the win.
Fans were already clamoring for a third rubber match between the two right after the fight was over, and Pimentel said he’d be up to go one more round against Cisco. But that will apparently have to wait, as Devin Mazik (4-1) was announced as the next challenger for Pimentel’s belt after the fight.
One of the best performances of the night had to go to Lance Phillips (6-0), who stayed unbeaten with a dominant victory over Chicago area native Brenden Toler (6-2). Phillips was the aggressor for the entire fight, using his wrestling to put Toler on his back and beat him up with ground and pound. Eventually the fight made it to the ground again in the second round, and from there Phillips was able to lock in the rear naked choke to secure the victory to remain unbeaten.
