Recap – Caged Madness 36

[tps_title]Super heavyweight slugfest[/tps_title]
Let’s face it: a lot of times, super heavyweight bouts are either over in 30 seconds, or they become a test of wills as two massive fighters both attempt to avoid complete exhaustion. That was not the case in Saturday’s co-main event, as Araujo and Fasion put on the best super heavyweight bout I’ve ever seen in what was the fight of the night.

Faison came out swining, landing a handful of big shots in the first round that had Araujo on his heels. Araujo, a Seargeant in the U.S. Army, rebounded in the second, landing big blow after big blow to put Faison on his heels.

The third round was a bit slower, with Faison using clench work against the cage to attempt to put the third round in his back pocket to get the win. It wasn’t pretty, but I actually scored the fight 29-28 for Faison after three exciting rounds. Two of the three judges disagreed, giving Araujo a split decision victory and making him the new EFP super heavyweight champion.

Araujo is now scheduled to face Steve Mowry at Gladiators of the Cage next month in his home state of Pennsylvania, as he drops back down to the heavyweight division in a quest to eventually make it down to the 205-pound light heavyweight class.
