Northern Kentucky’s newest brewery is set to open this weekend, as Fabled Brew Works will have their grand opening at their Erlanger taproom.
Fabled Brew Works is a fantasy-themed taproom, with echoes of Dungeon’s & Dragons and Lord of the Rings in their taproom and beer names.
The group of five owners – Kent Wessels, Jon Lawlor, Mike Turvey, Aaron Daniele and John Ewers – are all friends who experienced drinking craft beer and mead from around the country together, and they decided to open a brewery.
They have a very robust opening taplist, with a total of 23 combined beers and meads available:
- three lagers (an American lager and two Mexican lagers)
- a blonde ale with coffee and vanilla
- a pale ale
- three IPAs (one hazy and two milkshake IPAs)
- six sours (including a Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum series with four different ice cream inspired sours)
- four dessert stouts
- five meads (including two session meads that clock in at 7% ABV)
Head brewer John Ewers joined the group after previously working at Streetside and Listermann, and he is known for his dessert stouts and New England IPAs. Brad Ryles is their mead maker, and he spent time at Listermann as well. He’s also the owner of the former Dysfunctional Delights Meadery, which was based in Lebanon before closing.
Although the building is new, the owners put a lot of time and effort into creating a unique taproom experience, with a hollowed tree behind the bar, a thatched roof and more. The 4,000 square foot taproom features a 7 bbl brewing system and they also have an outdoor patio that is around 800 square feet. They won’t serve food but they plan to have rotating food trucks available.
Fabled joins the fast-growing Northern Kentucky brewery scene, with 16 Lots Southern Outpost opening in May and breweries planned in Union and Independence as well.
