Four more beer medals are coming home to Cincinnati, as Rhinegeist, Sonder, Streetside, and Third Eye all won medals at the World Beer Cup for 2023. This is the first World Beer Cup medal for all four breweries.
Rhinegiest won a gold medal in the American Style Cream Ale category for Cheetah, their flagship beer that they market as a light lager. Cheetah also won silver medals at the 2022 Ohio Craft Brewer’s Cup and 2020 US Open Beer Championship.
Sonder also won a gold medal in the German-Style Kolsch category for Voss, their flagship kolsch that was one of the first beers they brewed. This is the first medal win for Voss, and they’ve now won medals at Great American Beer Festival, US Open Beer Championship, and the World Beer Cup.
Streetside won a silver medal in the English-Style Brown Ale category for Black Cats, a traditional English Brown Ale. This is the first medal for Black Cats, but Streetside has won multiple medals at the US Open Beer Championship and Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beers.
Third Eye won a bronze medal in the Sweet Stout or Cream Stout category for Higher Purpose, a milk stout that supports the Live Like Maya Foundation. This is the sixth major medal for Higher Purpose, which also won gold at GABF in 2021, gold at the US Open in 2020 and 2021 and silver in 2022, and bronze at the Ohio Craft Brewer’s Cup in 2022.
A total of seven Ohio breweries won a combined ten medals, with Cleveland-area based Fat Head’s winning an event-high four awards. The World Beer Cup featured more than 10,000 entries from more than 50 countries. You can view the full list of winners here.
