Garage Beer Co. to open Columbus location in conjunction with Leisure Club

Just a few months after spinning off into its own company, Garage Beer Co. is set to open its first brick-and-mortar location in conjunction with Leisure Club on the east side of Columbus.

Launched by owners Matthew Barnes and Jared Gibbons, Leisure Club is “one part experiential retail store and one part event venue — with a strong “basement den” aesthetic that any 80s dad would love.”

This will be the fourth different iteration for Leisure Club, as the new location at 1610 Oak St. will be right beside the new Columbus Brewing Company Beer Hall and the East Market. The location replaces their current location in the Grandview neighborhood just north of downtown.

Covington, Kentucky’s Braxton Brewing Co. spun off their popular light lager Garage Beer into its own company earlier this year. To help spur expansion focused on growing distribution, sales, and notoriety, Braxton formed a partnership with veteran marketer Andrew Sauer.

The social media post announcing the partnership from Leisure Club says that “in addition to a cool hang space, select vintage and branded apparel, we are adding a social club with memberships to our list of offerings.”

Consumers can rent out their current space for private events, and that is expected to be an offering for the new location as well. It’s unknown how Garage Beer specifically fits into the plans, but their goal of becoming the go-to hangout beer to drink with your friends in the garage definitely seems to fit with the concept.
