While Cincinnati has a multitude of breweries, one area that seems a little underdeveloped in terms of the number of breweries is Northern Kentucky. The area of almost half a million residents will add its newest brewery next week when Barleycorn’s Brewhouse opens in Wilder.
Barleycorn’s Brewhouse will become Wilder’s first brewery and the seventh in Northern Kentucky. They join Alexandria Brewing Company, Bircus Brewing Co., Braxton Brewing Company (2 locations), Darkness Brewing, Hofbrauhaus Newport, and Wooden Cask Brewing Company south of the Ohio River.
An offshoot of the Northern Kentucky sports bar chain with locations in Lakeside Park, Cold Spring, and Florence, the brewhouse will serve as the beer hub providing beer to all of the restaurants and also featuring a test kitchen.
Barleycorn’s was purchased by One Holland Corp. in 2021, which owns several Skyline and LaRosa’s franchises as well as other restaurants. One Holland also plans to open 1842 Brewery in Independence in 2023.
The building is a former firehouse and will feature a 5-barrel brewhouse with 30 barrels of fermenting capacity.
Chefs from Greyhound Tavern, also owned by One Holland, will use the kitchen to test and create new items.
Barleycorn’s has had multiple connections to the Cincinnati craft beer scene, including a partnership with 50 West to brew their house red lager.
Barleycorn’s Brewhouse is set to have five beers available for their opening:
- Wet’ & Wilder (American IPA – 6.9%)
- Hail Mary (Pale Ale – 5.3%)
- Poppin’ Pils (German Pilsner – 5.2%)
- Crazy Norse (New England/Hazy IPA – 6.3%)
- Creamy Kitty (Cream Ale – 4.8%)
They also have a food menu featuring bar staples, including appetizers (wings, slider flight, cheese duet, saratoga chips), sandwiches (turkey club, cheeseburger, fried cod, chicken, pulled pork), and entrees (fish & chips, entree salad).
