Cincinnati is getting its first cidery

Cincinnati is one of only three major US cities without a dedicated cidery, but Northwood Cider Co. plans to change that.

The cidery, which will open in Norwood off of Montgomery Rd in 2022, will be the first dedicated cider in Cincinnati. Some of the city’s craft breweries produce cider – such as Rhinegeist, Madtree, and March First – but none do so on a major scale. Some of Boston Beer Co.’s Angry Orchard cider is also produced at their OTR brewery.

Owned by two couples – Joe and Rohan Klare and Darrin Wilson and Keyu Yan – they aim to fill a gap in the Cincinnati market, as many are looking for lower calorie and lighter alternatives to beer.

The location – which was formerly a brake shop – sits in a convenient location near other breweries but not so close as to siphon customers. Madtree Brewing is to the east in Oakley, and Listermann’s new Trail House is to the south in Norwood.

Despite its history as an automotive shop, the group plans to make the taproom open and airy, with greenery and lighter colors. In addition to their own cider, they’ll also serve beer and wine and partner regularly with food trucks for food.

Wilson is a former co-owner of Dreaming Creek Brewery in Richmond, Kentucky and has experience in the adult beverage industry. The group also has experience in community development and real estate.
