Just barely a year after opening, Moeller Brew Barn has closed its Monroe location.
Based in Maria Stein, Ohio, Moeller purchased the former Rivertown Brewing location last spring and opened just a few months later. They planned to use the location to ramp up production and to help produce beer for their other locations in Maria Stein, Troy, and Dayton.
The brewery reportedly invested more than $4 million into the location that was built in 2017, adding a garage door, new restaurant equipment, and changing the branding.
The brewery houses a large 50 barrel system, and Rivertown had previously used the capacity for contract brewing in addition to brewing their own beer.
They posted the following statement on Facebook:
We have made the difficult decision to shut down our Monroe taproom effective immediately. Unfortunately our sales revenue was not adequate to maintain operations. While our time here was short, it was an adventurous ride shared with our staff and our guests.
Please visit your local taproom and brewery! You can find Moeller Brew Barn in Maria Stein, on Troy’s Main Street, and Dayton’s Water Street District. Cheers!
Rivertown originally opened in Lockland in 2009, before expanding to the larger Monroe location in 2017. They were sued by multiple vendors seeking $1.5 million, and eventually closed their doors in 2022 after a rocky run through the pandemic where rumors had swirled about the future of the brewery for years.
