Jason Brewer’s dream project is on the horizon. The former longtime Listermann General Manger has been away from the brewery scene for a few years, but he has spent that time working at Hoppin’ Vines and putting together his business plan for Wandering Monsters Brewing.
Now it has all come together, and Wandering Monsters will open in the former ‘The Game’ bar in Anderson on Beechmont Ave on July 6. The taproom space is 5,500 square feet, and they’ll also expand into a 6,000 square foot space next door with six lanes of duckpin bowling, a private event space, barrel storage, and brewing operations. The duckpin bowling won’t be open during the grand opening, but they’ve said it won’t be far behind. They’ll have a 10-barrel brewing system.
Zach Boehnke joined as head brewer from Braxton. After working at Lexington’s West Sixth as a sales rep, he joined Braxton as a staff brewer before becoming the lead innovation brewer behind Braxton Labs before heading Braxton’s barrel program for the last two years.
Wandering Monsters traveled to the Chicago area to brew a collaboration with Phase Three Brewing called Monster Bird. The beer is a Double New England IPA with Strata, Citra, and Vic Secret Hops and will be on tap for the grand opening. They also brewed a West Coast IPA with Mikerphone, a fruited sour with Untitled Art, and a Barrel-Aged Stout with More Brewing Co. that’s expected to be released in the future. There’s also talk of a collaboration with Cincy’s HighGrain that is in the works.
Wandering Monsters will also feature a BBQ-focused food offering, which will be led by Mike Georgiton, former director of operations for Queen City Hospitality.
