HighGrain Brewing opening second brewery at closed bowling alley

Yet another Cincinnati brewery is adding a second space, as HighGrain Brewing will open a production brewery and taproom in the closed Brentwood Bowl location in Springfield Township. The goal is to be open by fall 2023.

The new brewery will be 50,000 square feet, with plenty of room for production, a kitchen, and taproom. There will also be event spaces both indoors and out that can be rented. The kitchen will feature a similar concept to their Silverton location’s upscale bar food, with a bit of a twist.

The outside will feature covered patio and greenspace, and HighGrain Brewing Co. has received grants to resurface the parking lot. HighGrain was founded with a goal to be sustainable, which has allowed them to land financing for energy efficient improvements. HighGrain opened their original location in Silverton in 2019.

HighGrain Brewing has focused on brewing well-crafted traditional styles without many adjuncts, and their beer has won six medals at the US Open Beer Championship since 2020. That includes a gold for Lusen in the German Lager/Pilsner category and a bronze for Oost in the Belgian-Style Strong Specialty Ale category in 2022. They’ve increased distribution since opening, including being available in more than 20 Kroger grocery stores across the Cincinnati region.

There has been a major rush of breweries opening second locations in the past year. MadTree opened their Alcove location in OTR in 2022. Paradise Brewing and Municipal Brew Works also opened second locations last year. Looking ahead, Sonder, 16 Lots, Bircus, Braxton, Fretboard, March First, and Third Eye are expected to open additional locations in the near future.
