Northwood Cider Company hosts grand opening this weekend

Cincinnati is finally about to get its first dedicated cidery, as Northwood Cider Company is set to open their doors this weekend in Norwood.

Located in the former Norwood Brake auto shop, the owners completely gutted their building at 2075 Mills Ave before rebuilding it into a family-friendly taproom.

The owners are a pair of couples who met and discovered they both had a love for homebrewing cider. Co-owner Joseph Klare also has a gluten allergy, which drove him toward cider. One of the other co-owners, Darrin Wilson, was previously a co-owner of Dreaming Creek Brewery in Richmond, Kentucky. He sold his share in the business when he moved.

Northwood Cider Co. is expected to offer multiple types of cider, and they will also offer beer and wine for those who aren’t bought in to cider just yet. For food, they’ll just have light bites from local vendors, but they announced that they will host food trucks on certain nights in the future.

The owners are hoping to capitalize on the “middle ground” between beer and wine, and have also seen the rise of low calorie alcoholic beverages in recent years like seltzers and low-carb beer.

The interior of the building is expected to be the opposite of a typical warehouse-style brewery, featuring lush greenery, bright colors, and plenty of open space for gatherings.

The name Northwood comes both from Norwood as well as the northwood apple cider apple tree.

The grand opening is from 5-11pm on Friday, 11am-11pm on Saturday, and 11am-8pm on Sunday.
