Rebel Mettle is Cincinnati’s newest brewery

Cincinnati’s newest brewery is here, and Rebel Mettle Brewery is aiming to be something different.

With a taproom located on Central Ave in the Central Business District, Rebel Mettle is a key cog in the revitalization of Historic West Fourth in a formerly quiet part of downtown.

With owners who are veterans, the brewery says it is rooted in military, music, and motorcycles. Of course those things are wrapped around craft beer and community.

With the closure of Rock Bottom Brewery earlier this year, Rebel Mettle will be the only brewery in the heart of downtown (they will be joined by the Listermann German Beer Hall on 4th Street sometime in the future).

Owners Mike Brown, Greg Goeke, and Duane Donohoo plan to come out swinging, with three packaging labels already approved and with local distribution and local home delivery already planned to start around Cincinnati. Typically local breweries will focus on taproom sales for years before beginning packaging, but Rebel Mettle is going all in with their quick growth plan.

The three core beers they’ll offer upon opening include:

  • Stubentiger – a 4.2% ABV session lager
  • Mettle Mayhem – a 5.0% India Pale Lager
  • Volume – an 8.5% juniper schwarzbier

Rebel Mettle also has a bold brand designed by Hyperquake.

The ownership group brought on Joshua Deitner as its Director of Brewing. Deitner is a Siebel Institute graduate and also brewed at Shanghai Brewery in China and Bone Hook Brewing Company in Florida according to his LinkedIn profile.

It’s been a long journey for the Rebel Mettle, as they eventually planned to renovate the former Clyffside Brewery in OTR before deciding on a space that needed less work. They’re excited to get open and will brew on a 15bbl system.
