Fountain Square’s Rock Bottom Brewery closes

And just like that, Cincinnati’s longest-running craft brewery has closed.

Fountain Square’s Rock Bottom Brewery, which had been a staple of the Cincinnati brewery scene dating to the brewpub boom in the 1990s, has closed, according to reports.

The move is not entirely unexpected, as Rock Bottom parent company CraftWorks filed for bankruptcy in March and fired nearly all 18,000 of its employees. The company also own’s Logan’s Roadhouse, Old Chicago, and Gordon Biersch. They also closed the Gordon Biersch brewery in Columbus in March.

Cincinnati’s longest-running brewery is Trenton’s MillerCoors Brewery, which opened in 1991. The longest-running craft brewery is now the Samuel Adams Brewery, which officially took over the former Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewery in 1997. The longest running brewery with a taproom is Newport’s Hofbrauhaus, which opened in 2003 as the first Hofbrauhaus location outside of Germany. See the full list of Cincinnati breweries here.
