Northern Row Brewery’s taproom is finally open

You’ve probably seen beer from Northern Row Brewery around Cincinnati over the past few years, but one thing you haven’t been able to do is enjoy one of their brews in their taproom. Until now.

After beginning brewing in 2018, the crew at Northern Row finally has a space to call their own. The brewery and distillery is located at 111 W. McMicken Ave, just around the corner from Rhinegeist Brewery in Over-the-Rhine.

Of course grand openings are different in these times just like anything else, and Northern Row is planning what they describe as a “muted” opening. The tables will be spaced further apart, and reservations will be required for indoor seating while the patio is first come, first served.

Aside from brewing beer, Northern Row is also a distillery, and they’ve spent the time since their original planned opening on St. Patrick’s Day working on Project Sanitizer, making hand sanitizer rather than spirits for the time being.

The brewery also offers food from Chef Monroe, including sandwiches, salads, and appetizers.

They have 14 beers available for their grand opening, split into four different categories: light, hoppy, dark, and outcasts. The light beers include a kolsch, a pilsner, a Helles lager, and a Belgian witbier. The hoppy group consists of four IPAs, including a blood orange IPA and a softer English IPA. The dark beers are an oatmeal stout and a Marzen lager. The outcasts include a dunkelweizen and a hefeweizen, as well as a raspberry infused version of their oatmeal stout, and the popular Preacher, a peach and apricot fruit beer.

The head brewer is Greg Larsen, a west coast veteran who has spent time at the likes of BJ’s Brewhouse as well as Third Street AleWorks, Marin Brewing, and Bluewater Brewing.

The taproom itself looks to be gorgeous – housed in an 1895 building in the historic OTR. It was used as a lagering icehouse for Christian Moerlein prior to Prohibition, and the group has revitalized the space into something that honors its past while looking forward to the future.
