A visit to MPH Brewing

The town of Montgomery in Cincinnati may be known as a historic bedroom community that is the home of the famous Montgomery Inn ribs, but the affluent community is now home to something it didn’t have before: a brewery.

MPH Brewing became the first brewery in the town when it opened just this past weekend, and with COVID-19 restrictions easing up, my wife Angie and I decided to take a trip to check it out.

The MPH Brewing ownership group took over the former Pomodori’s Pizzeria space just off of the main strip in Montgomery. The building is a beautiful brick space, and inside they added a U-shaped bar with high top community tables as well as a good number of low top tables. There are plenty of TVs showing sports (when sports actually return), but they’re not the focal point of the space.

MPH also has a large front patio, with plenty of picnic tables perfectly spaced for social distancing. In order to increase their capacity, they also had a tent set up in their parking lot with even more seating.

MPH offers brick oven pizzas as well as a few appetizers, but we were there for beer. Brewmaster JC Jordan had seven beers ready to go for MPH’s grand opening, including an IPA, a double IPA, a light ale, an extra light ale, and a golden ale. The brewery is also offering two lesser seen styles, including an 8.2% ABV English Strong Ale, and a 9% Belgian Tripel.

Without flights being offered just yet we weren’t able to try as many beers as we normally would at a new place, but we still tried the IPA and double IPA, as well as the Arm’s Length light ale and the Napoleon’s Revenge tripel. All the beers were solid, with the light ale actually being the standout for us. It looks as though MPH is going to focus on drinkable, traditional styles for the time being, which is seamless for the neighborhood.

MPH is perfectly situated as a neighborhood brewery that I’m sure will become a popular hangout for residents in the Montgomery area.
