Ohio native Lance Palmer (10-1) successfully defended his World Series of Fighting featherweight title with a quick submission over Chris Horodecki (21-6-1) in the main event at WSOF 21 on Friday night, and the former four-time All-American used his wrestling to pave his path to victory.

Palmer, who wrestled at Ohio State and now resides in Sacramento where he trains with Team Alpha Male, took the Canadian down early and often in the fight, and with a minute remaining in the opening round, he got Horodecki’s back. After using a few strikes to open him up, Palmer sunk in the rear naked choke and flattened out Horodecki, earning the tap and successfully defending his title for the first time.

The end came at 4:28 in the very first round.

Palmer has now won three bouts in a row and remains one of the top 145-pound prospects in the sport.
