Still undefeated, Alfred Leisure (4-0) is hoping for his shot on the next stage.
The Columbus native and new IT Fight Series professional bantamweight champion is hoping that a dominant performance in a victory over Manuel Correa (1-2) at IT Fight Series 33 last weekend earns him some national attention and a potential shot on the next level.
“I started off with a goal of just fighting once, then it was an amateur title, then it was to turn pro, and the next thing was a pro title,” Leisure said when he joined The Kyote Ugly Show earlier this week. “And now, even before the pro title, I set a goal to fight in Bellator or the UFC. I talked to [IT Fight Series owner] Scott [Sheeley] months ago … and he basically told me 4-0 and I’ll try to get you in Bellator.
“We talked after this fight and he said, ‘You need to stay ready. I’m going to try to do something for you.'”
The 33-year-old fighter has yet to taste defeat even dating back to his amateur career, where he posted a 6-0 record before making the jump to the pro ranks just over two years ago.
Since turning pro he has been just as dominant, stopping Mark Wilson with a TKO due to a knee to the body in his pro debut, and then following that up with a second round knockout victory over Raymond Yanez.
He then took on Mike Velazquez at IT Fight Series 29 in November, taking a unanimous decision in a fantastic fight that earned him 2014 IT Fight Series fight of the year honors.
Leisure’s attacking striking style always makes him a fan favorite, and his well-rounded game could get him a shot on the next level.
