Weekend Preview

Now that the holidays are over, it’s time for some fights! Mixed martial arts action returns to the Ohio Valley region this weekend in earnest, as a pair of events will take place across the area. First up, Explosive Fight Promotions will head to New Philadelphia, Ohio on Saturday night, as Caged Madness 33 features a pro/am lineup to kick off what should be a busy slate of Buckeye State events this year.

Also on Saturday, the Elite Amateur Fight League will debut in Indianapolis with a new team-based amateur concept. The debut event will feature top fighters from Indiana squaring off against top fighters from Illinois.

BluegrassMMA.com will have reporters live on the ground at both events, and updates will be posted via Twitter, and of course right here on the mother ship.

January 17th – New Philadelphia, OH

One of the longest-running promotions in Ohio returns this weekend, as Caged Madness 33 is set to go down in New Philadelphia with a pro/am lineup.

The headliner features a pair of the state’s brighest young stars, as Andrew Law (4-2) faces Trent McCown (6-2) in a welterweight battle. Both fighters are coming in off of losses and look to rebound with a high profile win. Law is a long, lanky fighter and judo black belt who promises to show a different game than we’ve ever seen from him before. And McCown will fight for the first time in 20 months, as he will look to overpower Law with his aggressive style.

Just added to the fight card was a pro welterweight matchup pitting Matt Anderson (1-3) vs. Matthew Egner (3-5). This bout replaced a planned co-feature of Jerrell Hodge (0-1) vs. Jeremiah Yeager (1-3), which will no longer be happening.

On the amateur side of things, a pair of unbeaten heavyweights will square off for the vacant EFP title, as JD Ramsey (4-0) takes on Pennsylvania’s Steve Mowry (5-0). The entire card features 16 total bouts, and you can check out the full lineup HERE.
