October is officially spooky season. That’s what Municipal Brew Works hopes when they open their second brewery in the Spooky Nook Champion Mill development on Oct. 1.
The second brewery was announced in Spring 2021, and is finally set to open after a year and a half of planning and building. Spooky Nook is a massive development, with the second largest conference center in Ohio and the nation’s largest sports complex with over a million square feet in total.
Municipal’s brewery is part of the Mill Two site, where they take up 5,000 square feet of the 55,000 square foot building. They will be brewing in the space, with a 7-barrel brew system and 15-barrel fermenters. The additional brewing capacity will allow them to experiment with new beers, as they’ve been struggling to keep up with the demand of their core beers at their original location. They’ll also feature 30 taps.
Municipal opened in 2016 in a former municipal building near downtown Hamilton and they’ve continued to grow over the past six years, including canning their beer and having it available for limited distribution. Their most popular beers include Approachable Blonde blonde ale, Orange Agave blonde ale, and Scout IPA.
Spooky Nook’s two separate locations will be Mill One and Mill Two. Mill One will be a fitness center, climbing/adventure center, hardwood, turf and sport courts for volleyball, field hockey, basketball and more at Mill One. Mill Two will include a 16-room conference center and hotel.
Champion Mill was originally built in the 1890s and developers spent $165 million to bring back much of the original character, including polished concrete floors, steel beams, and original windows.
