Joel Geier joins me once again, this time to discuss Hershey, Pennsylvania’s Tröegs Independent Brewing.
Since being founded in 1996, Tröegs has been a fan favorite and is currently the 24th-largest craft brewery in the United States.
Their Hershey, Pennsylvania production brewery opened in the fall of 2011 after they opened their original brewery in Harrisburg over a decade before.
The brewery is very large, with a huge taproom overlooking their production space, a self-guided tour, and a gift shop. They also have a fairly large covered outdoor patio and a loft area above the main taproom. Food is available at their snack bar and they have a food truck that is open on the weekends.
Tröegs is known for beers like their Troegenator Doppelbock, an 8% beer that is one of the few year-round doppelbocks available in the U.S. They also have a wealth of other core offerings, including Perpetual IPA, DreamWeaver Wheat, Haze Charmer hazy pale ale, and Sunshine Pils. They have some of the most popular seasonal beers as well, including January’s Nugget Nectar, Master of Pumpkins pumpkin ale, and Mad Elf Christmas ale.
I visited Tröegs as part of a long road trip featuring stops in York and Hershey, Pennsylvania, Cooperstown, New York (for Brewery Ommegang), and Portland, Maine (for breweries like Main Beer Co. and Allagash). Stay tuned for episodes on those breweries in the near future.
