Adam Townsend (14-3) is finally getting his chance to headline a major event, but he’ll have to break through the noise of an extremely busy MMA weekend.

“Prime Time” headlines RFA 33 on Friday night, as he’ll take on Ernest Chavez (9-2) in Costa Mesa, California. The RFA 33 main card, including Townsend’s bout, airs live on AXS TV.

The Tennessee native, who is riding an 8-fight winning streak, will have a lot of competition in terms of eyeballs, and it’s not clear how much spotlight there is to go around.

The UFC is holding three events in three days, as UFC Fight Night 80 takes place Thursday, the TUF 22 Finale is Friday, and the massive UFC 194 event is Saturday. There’s also a ONE FC event in Asia on Friday.

“That’s the reason that RFA put me on as the main event,” Townsend told BluegrassMMA.com. “RFA doesn’t have to compete with the UFC, but we still want to be seen. And I truly believe that if I go out there and get a good finish, it will not be overlooked.”

“Bessides,” he added. “It’s Prime Time.”

Townsend, who is nominated for our 2015 BluegrassMMA Pro Fighter of the Year Award as well as the Pro Submission of the Year, has had a standout year in 2015, and he looks to defeat his third consecutive UFC veteran in Chavez.

He’s 3-0 on the year and looking to go 4-0, with wins over UFC vets Yuri Villefort and Ryan Roberts already under his belt.

Townsend has taken to calling himself the best fighter outside of the UFC, and at this point, it may be hard to argue as he is tearing through former Zuffa talent at a torrid pace.
