One of the country’s top regional promotions returns on Friday night, as CFFC 53 takes place at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

Headlining the 12-bout lineup will be heavyweight champ Zu Anyanwu (9-3), as he defends his title against Dan Spohn (11-4).

A one-time Bellator veteran, the Philly native Anwanwu will look to defend his home turf as well as his title against Spohn. Anyanwu’s last five bouts have all come under the CFFC banner, including his last bout at CFFC 50 in July, when he wrested the title away from Plinio Cruz in a rematch after losing the first meeting between the two last year. Aside from his two decisions against Cruz, his other three bouts under the CFFC banner have come via first round knockout.

A UFC veteran who competed on season 19 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the Ohio native Spohn has earned three straight victories after being cut from the UFC. Looking to make his way back to the Octagon, the normal light heavyweight has decided to bulk up to heavyweight to show that he can be competitive in multiple divisions.

In the co-main event, former CFFC title challenger Jordan Stiner (9-3) will take on WEC and Bellator veteran Anthony Morrison (17-9).

Once considered perhaps the top lightweight prospect in CFFC, Stiner has suffered back to back defeats at the hands of current champ Darrell Horcher and Stephen Regman. This will be his tenth appearance for CFFC, as he has posted a 6-3 record for the organization thus far.

After not fighting for all of 2014, Morrison returned to action in February where he submitted Ray Wood to win the New England Fights featherweight title. “Cheesesteak” is currently riding a three-fight winning streak.

Also on tap, Sean Brady (2-0) is set to take on Canadian fighter Aaron Jeffery (2-0) in a welterweight bout.

After closing out a perfect 5-0 amateur career, the PA native Brady has stayed unbeaten fighting under the CFFC banner as a pro. Still just 23, he looks to build off of a decision win over Jake Gombocz at CFFC 48 in May.

Also 23, the Ontario native Jeffery was 8-1 as an amateur before he jumped to the pro ranks. He is two-for-two with finishes as a pro, stopping Matt Anderson via submission and Dave Lastafka via knockout in his first two bouts.
