We knew that an altercation was on the way after the UFC released a teaser video earlier this summer, but now we have the full background of the altercation between Ohio native Cody “No Love” Garbrandt and UFC interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor on the set of “The Ultimate Fighter 22.”
On the episode that aired last night, the two teams were waiting for a photo shoot after Julian Erosa took home a majority decision over Medi Baghdad to advance in the competition, and McGregor started trash talking opposing coach Urijah Faber, calling his (then) teammate and current UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw a “snake in the grass.”
Obviously Faber took offense to this, as did members of his team and coaching staff.
Garbrandt, also a UFC bantamweight, took offense as well, and when McGregor asked if anybody was going to do anything abous his trash talking, “No Love” responded by standing up and shoving the Irishman.
The two were quickly separated by members of both teams, and tensions cooled.
Garbrandt is a member of Team Alpha Male and helped serve as an assistant coach for Faber’s team during the season. He is currently 7-0 overall and is 2-0 in the UFC.
In a bit of an interesting twist, Dillashaw is no longer training with Team Alpha Male in Sacramento and has moved to train at with the Elevation Fight Team in Colorado to prepare for his upcoming title defense against Dominick Cruz in January.
Many have speculated that Dillashaw switched camps to potentially set up a future fight with Faber at bantamweight, as he remains one of the biggest names and draws in the UFC.
