In what seems to be a growing trend in mixed martial arts, popular Pittsburgh fighter Mark Cherico (8-1) has annouced that his fight against Nate Landwehr (6-1) this weekend at Gladiators of the Cage 19 will be his last.

I was recently able to catch up with Cherico, who seems to have made peace with the fact that Saturday will be the last time he steps into a cage to compete.

In the interview, Mark talks about how mounting injuries and a desire to grow his family are part of what are leading him to retire.

He also mentioned that some of the backroom dealings in the sport have left a “sour taste” in his mouth, and the fact that he feels he’s still at least a few fights away from the UFC were factors as well.

Mark also briefly touched on his teammate Khama Worthy getting a fight that he has wanted for a long time, as Worthy will face Antonio Castillo Jr. at Pinnacle FC 12 next month.
