After more than two years out of the cage, Ohio-based welterweight Isaac Steele (4-0) finally has his next fight set.
The Chillicothe native, who now lives and trains in Columbus, is set to travel to Atlantic City on Sept. 25 where he will challenge Randy Brown (4-0) for the welterweight title in the main event at Ring of Combat 52.
Now training at Westside Barbell in Ohio’s capital alongside top ranked UFC welterweight Matt Brown, the 26-year-old Steele has finally recovered from a major ankle injury and multiple opponents backing out of fights. He was last seen in action at UVC 22 in February 2013, where he stopped Tommy Roberts in the first round. It was his third first round submission win in four outings.
The 25-year-old New York native Brown will look to make it two in a row over Ohio natives, as he most recently stopped Rocky Edwards to defend his title for the first time in June. All four of his pro bouts have been under the Ring of Combat banner, an organization that has now sent over 100 fighters to the UFC.
As mentioned in a recent interview with his hometown Chillicothe Gazette, Steele plans to donate proceeds from his fight and t-shirt sales to leukemia research:
“To be honest, the reason why I’m doing this is because I want to fight for a certain cause,” Steele said. “I’ve had three close family members pass away due to lung cancer. So I’ve always tried to do something to support that cause in fights. This time, I’ll be raising money for leukemia after seeing (the late) Zach Farmer’s story. He inspired me in the way that he lived his life. It’s only right.”
Steele said that he was touched by the story of the former Ohio State baseball pitcher Farmer, who passed away last month.
