Two fast rising prospects have been added to next month’s King of the Cage: Counter Attack event in Western Pennsylvania, as light heavyweight Josh Stansbury (6-2) and lightweight Nick Browne (3-0) will compete on the card in separate bouts.
Stansbury is set to face veteran Lewis Rumsey (11-12) at 205 pounds. A native of nearby East Liverpool, Ohio, the “Sandman” is still looking for his opportunity to make it to the UFC. He competed on “The Ultimate Fighter 19” and was dominating in his preliminary bout to get into the house before suffering a knee injury. Since then he has been on the organization’s short list at 205 pounds, but he has yet to receive the call. The NAAFS champ returned to the cage in November, when he submitted Jeremy Osheim in the first round to claim the Prize Fighting Championship title as well.
Stansbury faces Rumsey, who comes in just over a month after dropping a split decision to another TUF 19 cast member in Dan Spohn. The Pennsylvania native has now dropped two in a row but he could get back on the winning track with an upset victory over Stansbury here.
Browne continues to be one of the hottest prospects in Pennsylvania, as the Uniontown native has earned stoppage victories in each of his three outings as a pro, including a 25-second knockout in his World Series of Fighting debut last year. The 25-year-old, who has won nine in a row dating back to his amateur days, will take on Andrew Osborne (7-9) at 155 pounds. The Philadelphia area native has dropped four in a row after posting a 4-1 record over a five five span from 2012-2013.
Also added to the card was unbeaten bantamweight Josh Baker (7-0), who will take on Indiana native Justin King (4-1) at 135 pounds.
Popular Pittsburgh fighter Mark Cherico (8-1) was removed from the card, but he was tentatively added to the KOTC event in September back in Pennsylvania.
King of the Cage: Counter Attack takes place on July 11 at The Meadows Casino in Washington, Pennsylvania. The main event features heavyweights Nick Gaston (6-1) and Anthony McDonald (2-1).
