IT Fight Series 33 is set to go down this weekend at the Stars Indoor Sports Complex in Columbus, Ohio, and 15 bouts are on tap for the event, including 3 pro fights and 12 amateur bouts. Of the 15 bouts, 4 are title fights, including the professional main event and 3 amateur bouts.
In the headliner, Columbus native Alfred Leisure (3-0) will look to keep his perfect record intact as he faces Georgia’s Manuel Correa (1-1) for the organization’s professional 135-pound title. Leisure has 2 finishes two his credit and is 9-0 overall dating back to his amateur career. Correa had an impressive 5-1 amateur run and most recently picked up his first win as a professional.
In the co-main event, heavyweight knockout artists will square off as Tim Dunn (2-4) faces Strikeforce veteran Jason Riley (9-7). Dunn has earned both of his wins via first round knockout, and has 10 knockouts overall in his career with a 13-6 combined record. Riley hasn’t completed since 2012, when a first round TKO loss to William Penn was his fourth in a row. 8 of his 9 victories have come via strikes, and “The Juggernaut” has faced the likes of former UFC champion Tim Sylvia and current UFC No. 1 contender Daniel Cormier. The 6’6″ Riley will have a 9-inch height advantage over the 5’9″ Dunn, but both fighters should come in near the 265-pound heavweight limit.
Corey Meeks (2-0) is the only fighter currently on the card without an opponent, and the professional card will be rounded out with a lightweight battle featuring Matt Brown (0-1) taking on professional debutante Lucas Ransbottom (0-0, 5-0 am).
On the amateur side of things, 2 titles will be up for grabs. In the amateur main event, Floyd Cisco (3-2) and Joe Pimentel (3-1) will square off in a rematch for the organization’s flyweight title. Ronin Training Center’s Cisco earned a unanimous decision in their first meeting at IT Fight Series 29, but the Canadian Pimentel rebounded with a 46-second TKO victory just three weeks later.
The second amateur title fight will feature unbeaten bantamweights, as Pennsylvania’s Jason Alexander (4-0) takes on Canada’s Dalton Brady (4-0) at 135 pounds. Alexander competes for the third time in less than a month, as he has earned first round submissions over Ben Suehr and Cortland Woodard leading up to this bout. The 20-year-old Brady comes in unbeaten as well, and has finished three of his opponents, including 2 submissions and 1 TKO.
Columbus’ Ronnie Shoemaker (8-4) looks to gain some footing, as the veteran is just 2-2 over his last 4 bouts. He’ll take on Tim Eley (2-2), who earned a 47-second TKO win at IT Fight Series 31 in March. The light heavyweight title will also be up for grabs, as Chicago area native Brenden Toler (6-1) faces Columbus product Lance Phillips (5-0) at 205 pounds. 6 of Toler’s 7 bouts have been title fights, and he’s earned finishes in all of his victories. Meanwhile, Phillips has never been in the cage longer than 97 seconds and has finished all 5 of his opponents.
Update: We received an updated card, and no opponent was found for Corey Meeks so that fight was scratched. Also scratched were planned amateur bouts featuring welterweights Shawn Davis (0-0) vs. Stephen Hawthorne (0-0) and bantamweights Dib Kaddah (1-2) vs. Teshay Guthro (0-0). But the organization did add a last-minute lightweight bout, as Fightopia’s Chris Wolf (1-0) will square off against 18-year-old Canadian Anthony Romero (0-0).
IT Fight Series 33 will be streamed live via LiveSportscaster.com and the first bout is slated to start at 7pm.
