A raucous crowd packed itself inside Fairhaven Hall for live mixed martial arts action on Saturday night, as RFO held Mansfield Mayhem 14 to kick off its 2014 schedule.
The night’s headlining bouts featured two of Mansfield’s favorite sons, as both featherweight Josh Longood (7-1) and John Gunther (9-2) earned victories over two veteran opponents.
Longood survived an early test from former RFO champion Drew Schottenheimer (5-5-1), who was making his first appearance inside an MMA cage in two-and-a-half years. The “Honey Badger” eventually prevailed, locking in a rear naked choke after getting the fight to the ground in the second round. After the win, Longood hinted that his next step may be turning pro after a planned move to Columbus to join the police academy.
In the co-headliner, Gunther bounced back from just his second career loss, as he took all three rounds to earn a unanimous decision over Chris Tripi (7-1).
