Tennessee is the home of country music, and while many who visit end up on Broadway, the booming city has so much more to offer than the tourist trap.
I’ve visited Nashville for work a few times in the past couple of years, and I finally got to try out some of the craft breweries on my most recent trip.
Tennessee Brew Works
Tennessee Brew Works is located in The Gulch and has one of the coolest spaces in town. The two-story brewery has an awesome patio and some cool music memorabilia. They also have food but I wasn’t hungry when I went. I’ve heard it’s very good though.
The only beer I tried here was their 1927 IPA, which was a solid classic style IPA. I’d definitely like to visit again when it’s nicer to check out that patio.
Jackalope Brewing Company
Jackalope is a smaller brewery in The Gulch but they’ve been around for awhile. They’ve got a cool vibe and a really awesome Maple Brown Ale called Bearwalker.
Unfortunately they don’t can this beer because they add the maple after fermentation and it would be unstable in cans. Hopefully they find a way to get this one to more people in the near future.
Fat Bottom Brewing Co.
Fat Bottom opened up in East Nashville a few years ago, and they grew a cult following and had to expand. So they closed down their East Nashville location and opened up a huge new brewery and taproom in The Nations in 2017. This was a huge risk for the brewery, but they seem to be doing OK.
I personally had a pretty bad experience at this brewery, with rude bar service and subpar food, as well as dirty glassware. It seems they’ve a long way to go if they want to continue to expand.
Yazoo Brewing Company
Yazoo is one of the oldest and most recognized breweries in Nashville, so this was a must-visit for me. They’ve got a no-frills space and some solid beer. I enjoyed the Hopry and Hazy Peel IPA.
