The craft beer explosion continues to increase across Cincinnati, with a couple more breweries sneaking into the fray just before the end of 2017. One such brewery is Milford’s Little Miami Brewing Company, which opened just before Christmas.
The brewery aims to be a “neighborhood brewery,” meaning they’ll focus on their taproom experience rather than distribution and canning/bottling.
Little Miami is unique in that owners Dan Lynch and Joe Brenner built the building from ground up to be a brewery, placing it snugly in Milford with little to no direct competition. Lynch and Brenner did a lot of things right with their brewery, including hiring an experienced head brewer to produce top quality product on day one.
The brewery was packed when Angie and I visited despite near arctic temperatures. I’m sure how busy they were was a perfect storm of many things – they were still only “soft” opened, it was the week after Christmas where many people are off work with family in town, etc.
They have a nice large bar that stretches across the front of the taproom, with lots of high top tables behind. There’s also a patio outside that will provide awesome views of the river once it’s nicer outside. They also have lots of garage door style windows that open and should create an awesome atmosphere – again, when it’s warmer.
Little Miami also has pizza (there’s just something about craft beer and pizza, right?), but we didn’t try their food.
In terms of beer, it’s nothing short of solid. We only tried two of their offerings, partly because they don’t offer flights (they do have half-pours though). I enjoyed the Earth Cookie Brown Ale, a smooth drinking beer perfect for the colder weather. Angie had the Amarillo Hazy Single Hop Ale which was a nice balance of haze and hop.
Overall, Little Miami definitely meets a need in Milford where there weren’t a lot of nearby options. The brewery’s vibe perfectly fits the overall aesthetic of the upper middle class neighborhood and should definitely be successful.
