There had been rumblings that this weekend’s Turf Wars 28 event scheduled to take place in Florence, Kentucky was going to be cancelled, and now it’s official.
A source within the Kentucky Boxing & Wrestling Authority confirmed that the event was cancelled yesterday, and the listing on the website was updated earlier today to reflect that the event in fact will no longer take place.
This is the third cancellation for Turf Wars this year, as an outdoor event in June was cancelled due to inclement weather and then an event was cancelled in July due to not having enough fights to fill the card.
According to the event listing on mixedmartialarts.com, the Turf Wars 28 event had 7 bouts scheduled with two fighters on the card without opponents. It is unclear how many of these fights were still in place at the time of the cancellation. The main event was slated to feature Clay Baker making his pro debut against Jeff Mack.
Turf Wars 27 took place in August and had just five fights go down due to a lack of fighters for that event as well.
As it stands currently, Turf Wars is set to return to the Imani Family Life Center in Lexington, Kentucky on November 21 for their next event.
