After a brief break, Midwest Fight Series returns this weekend in Indiana, as MFS XIII takes place at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson just outisde of the state capital in Indianapolis.
The new venue for the organization seems to be a hit, as the event is expected to sell out with fans excited to pack the Terrace Showroom.
Headling the nine-fight card will be a professional lightweight showdown featuring a pair of the region’s top-ranked 155-pound fighters, as Indiana native Austin Tweedy (6-1) will take on Minnesota’s Brandon Jenkins (5-1).
Tweedy, ranked as the No. 6 professional lightweight in Indiana by Tapology, is riding a three-fight winning streak into the headliner. He has had a banner 2015 thus far, as he opened up the year with a first round submission over Jimmy Donahue at MFS XII and then followed that up with a nine-second knockout over Rob Imhoff at LFC 56 in July.
Jenkins, ranked as the No. 7 lightweight in Minnesota, looks to rebound from the first loss of his career, as the 23 year old dropped a unanimous decision to Nicholas Compton in his most recent outing in February. Prior to that, he had finished all of his fights, with three knockouts and two submissions, with four of those wins coming in the first round. The only two losses for these fighters have been decisions, so expect them to both be looking for the finish early and often.
In another pro lightweight bout, Jameson Sharp (1-0) will look to stay unbeaten when he faces Shawn Bottoms (2-1). Sharp was impressive in his pro debut with a victory over Sean Fallon in April, while Bottoms looks to rebound from his first career loss at the hands of Daniel Aguirre last October. The 26-year-old is 3-0 under the MFS banner dating to his amateur career.
The event also features a seven-bout amateur card, which is flanked by a heavyweight contest featuring Steven Jenkins (2-2) vs. Robert Little (2-3).
