After losing an opponent a week out from his last scheduled bout at Pinnacle FC 10, Khama Worthy (7-3) has his next bout scheduled, as he will step in to face seven-time Bellator veteran Matt Bessette (14-6) in the co-main event at CES MMA 29 next month in Rhode Island.
The Pittsburgh native Worthy had a banner year in 2014, producing a trio of highlight reel knockouts in the Pinnacle FC cage that put him on the national radar as a top prospect at 145 pounds. He dropped his first bout of 2015, as he was knocked out by William Quarantillo in the main event at Strike Off 4 in February.
“This is the most experienced opponent I’ve had,” Worthy said in an article posted on his management Guardian Sports Group’s website. “I definitely consider this to be another fight, but it’s a great opportunity for me to put my name back on the top of the list of featherweights who aren’t with the UFC.”
Bessette competed seven times under the Bellator MMA banner, producing a 5-2 record for the organization. He most recently earned a TKO victory over Josh Laberge at Bellator 134 in what was the last bout on his contract.
Worthy is the second Ohio Valley fighter to be added to the CES MMA 29 card, as Cincinnati’s Dom Steele is set to challenge UFC veteran Chuck O’Neil for the organization’s welterweight title in the main event.
CES MMA 29 takes place on June 12 at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island. The night’s main card airs on AXS TV.
