West Sixth Brewing
1 Levee Way, Newport (Bridgeview Box Park)
100 W Sixth St, Covington (Covington Haus) – coming soon
Lexington-based West Sixth Brewing opened a taproom at Bridgeview Box Park at Newport on the Levee in May 2021. They will close that location when they open West Sixth Covington Haus in the fall of 2024.
The location, located at 100 W Sixth Street in Covington, has a long history. It was originally a firehouse, and the brick building features arched windows and intricate exterior stonework. Over the years, it has been home to multiple businesses, including a sports bar, a popular bar named the Covington Haus, and most recently Flying Axes. The top floor of the building features the popular cocktail bar Second Story.
West Sixth currently has locations in Lexington, Frankfort, and Louisville, and this will be their first full-time location in Northern Kentucky.
West Sixth opened in 2012 in a 100-year-old building in Lexington and has become a familiar name across Kentucky and Southwest Ohio as they’ve distributed their beer in the region. Their most popular beers are West Sixth IPA, Amber Ale, Pay It Forward Porter, and Cerveza Mexican-style lager.
Newport-based Wooden Cask Brewing Company also opened at Bridgeview in 2020, and they moved into a more permanent location inside the Gallery Building in 2021.
Must-try beer: Pay It Forward! (porter with cacao nibs) – I’m pretty sure this was the first West Sixth beer I had, and it immediately turned me into a fan. It’s a big and toasty porter that has a punch of chocolate and a great mouthfeel. The best part is that a portion of the proceeds from every six-pack sold go to a support a non-profit in the community where the beer was sold.
